Online RSG Knowledge Base
Understand RSG training, choose the right course and prepare for online study. These guides explain the key things to check before you enrol.
What is an RSG course?
Responsible Service of Gambling training teaches how to support customers safely around gambling. It’s relevant to anyone working in a role that involves gambling activities in a hospitality or gaming venue.
The national unit is SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services. Check your state’s specific licensing rules before you enrol.

Who is RSG training for?
RSG training is required for staff whose duties involve gambling services or gaming areas. The responsibilities of gaming attendants, supervisors and other venue staff can differ.
Check with your employer and the relevant regulator about the training needed for your specific role.

What will you learn?
Training covers responsible gambling practices, recognising potential gambling-related harm and communicating appropriately with customers. Learn about venue procedures, customer welfare, support information and your responsibilities when providing gambling services.
Assessment asks you to apply the knowledge and skills covered by your selected course.

Is RSG the same as RCG?
The terms differ by state. RSG (Responsible Service of Gambling) in QLD, WA and NT. We use the term RCG (Responsible Conduct of Gambling) in NSW. Similar names don’t mean the courses are interchangeable, each one’s tied to that state’s own rules.
Choose the course for the state you’ll actually be working in, and check its delivery method and any extra licensing conditions before you enrol.

How does online RSG training work?
The RSG courses we offer are delivered self-paced, online. Work through the material and complete the required assessments within the course access period.
Review the practical assessment and device requirements before enrolling. Contact us if you need help understanding the process or arranging learning support.

How long does it take and what does it cost?
Current fees and course arrangements are shown on the selected state or territory page. Read what is included before booking.
Study time depends on your experience and progress. Set aside time for all learning and assessment activities, and check the access period and reassessment arrangements.

What do you need before starting?
Check your course’s eligibility, identification and technology requirements. Have your Unique Student Identifier (USI) ready and use enrolment details that match your identification. You can create or find your USI online.
You need sufficient English to follow the learning material and complete assessments. Contact NOC before booking if you need language, learning or accessibility support.

What happens after the course?
After successfully completing the assessment, you receive the RSG certification. Keep your training documents for employment and future reference.
Confirm any additional local requirements before starting work. If you move interstate or return after a break, check whether further training or updated evidence is needed.

Online RSG Frequently Asked Questions
Is this RSG course valid in every state?
Within QLD, WA and NT, yes, these three states recognise each other’s RSG certificate with no bridging course needed.
NSW uses a separate qualification called RCG instead of RSG, and Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT each run their own systems with different rules. Check and book the course for the state you’ll actually be working in.
How long does online RSG training take?
Around 4 to 6 hours, and since it’s self-paced, you can work through it in one sitting or spread it out, whatever suits you. Most students finish comfortably within a single day. There’s no live session to schedule, just the course material and your final assessment to complete.
How will I receive my RSG certificate?
After successfully completing the required training and assessment, you receive the Statement of Attainment for your RSG course. You can already work with that certificate. Keep a copy for your employer and your own records.
Do all hospitality workers need RSG training?
No, only staff whose duties actually involve gambling activities, like working around gaming machines or supervising gaming areas. General hospitality roles that don’t touch gambling in any way don’t require it.
Does an RSG certificate expire?
In QLD and WA, your RSG doesn’t expire once you’ve completed it. In the NT, it doesn’t expire either, but you’ll still need to complete a refresher course down the track to stay current.
Other states run differently, NSW’s equivalent (RCG) needs renewing every 5 years, and Victoria requires a refresher every 3 years. Check the rules for whichever state your certificate was issued in.
Do I need RSG if I work near gaming machines?
Yes, if your role involves working around, supervising or maintaining gaming machines in QLD, WA or NT, you’ll need a valid RSG certificate. This applies even if gambling isn’t your main duty, if it’s part of your job in any capacity, the requirement still applies. Check with your employer if you’re unsure.
What happens if I fail?
If you don’t pass on your first attempt, we’ll give you a second chance. You can go back and review any part of the training before you retake the assessment.
