What is RSG in Queensland?
RSG means Responsible Service of Gambling. It focuses on reducing gambling-related harm and applying responsible service procedures.
The nationally recognised unit is SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services. Local rules and the duties of your role also matter.
Who needs RSG in QLD?
People working in Queensland licensed clubs and hotels need RSG, including eligible licensees and gaming nominees. The usual deadline is within three months of starting employment.
Your employer should confirm the requirements for your duties. Additional management, security or licensed roles can have separate conditions.
What will you learn?
Learn to recognise possible signs of gambling harm, provide accurate information and respond respectfully to customers. Training covers self-exclusion, confidentiality, referral options and responsible service procedures.

Keeping your training current
A national Statement of Attainment in Provide responsible gambling services does not expire in Queensland. Older OLGR certificates have different arrangements, so check the actual document you hold.
Before working in another jurisdiction, check its recognition rules and your employer’s requirements. You may need additional local training or certification.

What identification and USI do I need?
Have a valid photo ID ready, driver’s licence, passport or proof of age card all count. Your enrolment details should match exactly. You’ll need a USI too, it’s a standard requirement for any nationally recognised training and free to create. Create or find your USI.
What equipment do I need?
You only need a laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection for the RSG QLD online course, that’s it.
RSG is knowledge and scenario-based, not hands-on, so there’s no PPE involved and no camera or microphone needed since there’s no live session to join.
What certificate will I receive?
You’ll get a Statement of Attainment for SITHGAM022 once you pass. Queensland doesn’t use a separate card system, your certificate is the official document and you can start working immediately.
Will my RSG QLD expire?
No, once you received your Queensland RSG, it doesn’t expire. There’s no mandatory renewal or refresher required by OLGR. That said, it’s worth brushing up on current rules if it’s been a while since you last worked in gaming.
Can I use this RSG QLD in other states?
Within the QLD, WA and NT group, yes, these three recognise each other’s RSG with nothing extra to complete. Outside that group it gets more complicated.
NSW doesn’t use RSG at all, it runs a completely separate qualification called RCG, so your QLD RSG won’t count there, you’d need to do the NSW course from scratch. Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT each run their own version of RSG training too, with their own approved providers and renewal rules, Victoria even adds an extra module through its own regulator.
