Age and eligibility
Enrolments are open to students aged 16 and over. You need to be 18 to serve, sell or supply alcohol in VIC.
Identification
Provide the identification requested at enrolment. Your legal name and details should match your USI records. Confirm accepted documents before starting.
USI
Have your Unique Student Identifier ready and make sure your enrolment details match your ID. A valid USI is needed for nationally recognised certification unless an exemption applies. Create or find your USI.
Computer and assessment
Use a suitable internet-connected device and current browser. Check camera, microphone and practical assessment requirements before starting; a laptop or desktop is recommended.
Certification
Victoria doesn’t accept a national Statement of Attainment on its own. You need the full Liquor Control Victoria process. Complete your RSA course, then finish the additional SHARPR module through LCV. Only then can you download your official Victoria RSA Certificate of Completion.
Language and support
You’ll need to read, write and speak English at an intermediate level to follow the course and complete the assessments.

What is RSA in Victoria?
RSA means Responsible Service of Alcohol. It is the training that teaches how to serve alcohol safely and step in when a situation could put customers or staff at risk.
The nationally recognised unit is SITHFAB021, Provide responsible service of alcohol. What’s also required depends on your state and the specific duties of your role.
Who needs RSA in VIC?
RSA is required when supplying alcohol at Victorian licensed venues. You can train while under 18 but must be 18 to serve alcohol. Check the course entry conditions before enrolling.
Your employer should confirm the requirements for your duties. Additional management, security or licensed roles can have separate conditions.
What will you learn?
Learn about standard drinks, alcohol-related harm, signs of intoxication, age checks and situations where service must be refused. Practise communicating clearly and responding professionally to difficult interactions.

Complete Victoria’s RSA refresher every three years. Interstate certificate holders should check eligibility for the Victorian bridging pathway before booking another full course.

What identification and USI do I need?
Bring along a valid photo ID, driver’s licence, passport or proof of age card. Check the details match what you entered at enrolment. A USI is required too, that’s a government requirement for any nationally recognised course, so get one free if you haven’t already. Create or find your USI.
What equipment do I need?
Just a laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection, nothing more. RSA is knowledge and scenario-based, not hands-on, so there’s no equipment needed. Since there’s no live session to join, you don’t need a working camera or microphone either.
What RSA certificate will I receive?
Victoria works a bit differently compared to other states in Australia.
You’ll get a Statement of Attainment once you pass the course, then you’ll need to complete an extra module called SHARPR directly through Liquor Control Victoria.
Only once both are done do you get your actual RSA Certificate of Completion, that’s the document your employer will want to see.
Will my VIC RSA expire?
Yes, your Victorian RSA Certificate of Completion is valid for 3 years. Before it expires, you’ll renew it through Liquor Control Victoria’s free online refresher course, if you miss the deadline, you’ll need to redo the full course from scratch.
Can I use my VIC RSA in other states?
Most other states accept the VIC Statement of Attainment for the national unit, sometimes with a quick registration step. NSW, however, is the exception, it requires its own full course regardless of where you trained.
